What a fabulous weekend we had at Camp for the reunion of the 1970’s staff! The weather was perfect, the bonds were as strong as they ever were and our memories of camp songs weren’t too bad either! The award for the longest distance traveled had to go to Brian Coursey from Whidbey Island, WA although Laura Dorsey’s trip from Seattle put her a close second. We had people come home to Piomingo from North Carolina, New York, Texas, Maine, Ohio, Oklahoma, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, South Carolina and all parts of Kentucky. The turnout was exciting – over 80 people showed up for all or part of the weekend’s activities – from the party at Libbie & Spencer Martin’s home in Louisville to those that were able to spend the entire weekend among our friends. Thanks to the 80’s staffers for their help in keeping things rolling. Evidently we did teach them something when they were our campers! Thanks also to Steve Merifield and Joey Barnard for making our weekend so wonderful! Old friendships were renewed, new friendships were begun, children and grandchildren were introduced and long ago crushes were finally revealed! We remembered those of our Piomingo family whom we have lost including Boyce, Jack, Sharon, Gil and Annie. We enjoyed long loved activities such as hikes to Van Buren overlook and North Point and tried new things like the pipeline slide! Having Anne “Turtle” Trowbridge Weinberg and Anne “Annehelm” Helm Galvin lead the campfire activities was perfect. . .the Magic “sometime she work, sometime she don’t.”
We laughed until we cried and can’t wait to do it all again! Noonway! (Big Piomingo hand clap!)
