Camp Piomingo Summer Staff Job Descriptions
Camp Piomingo serves children ages six to sixteen through three main programs: Traditional, Adventure, and Equestrian. Our staff consists of 6 Administrative Staff, 15 Program Staff and 50 Counselors. Detailed job descriptions are available upon request for each program/position. Senior Counselor (19+ years old)
Senior counselors will be responsible for the safety and welfare of six to eight children ages six through fifteen in a camp setting. This includes leading daily activities and residing with them in cabins. The senior counselor will go through our week long Staff Training followed by eight weeks of summer camp. Senior counselors must be at least nineteen years old and/or have some college experience, have had experience working with children, and lifeguard certification is preferable offered free by camp in May.
Junior Counselor (18 years old)
Junior counselors will work with senior counselors to ensure the safety and welfare of six to eight children ages six through fifteen in a camp setting. This includes leading daily activities and residing with them in cabins. The junior counselor will go through our week long Staff Training followed by eight weeks of summer camp. Junior counselors must be eighteen years old and/or have graduated from high school, have experience working with children, and lifeguard certification is preferable offered free by camp in May.
Staff Aide
Staff aide positions are volunteer positions. Staff aides will assist junior and senior counselors to ensure the safety and welfare of six to eight children ages six through twelve in a camp setting. This includes leading daily activities and residing with them in cabins. The staff aide will go through our week long Staff Training followed by eight weeks of summer camp. Staff aides must be seventeen years old, have experience working with children, preferably have completed a YMCA camp’s CIT program, and lifeguard certification is preferable offered free by camp in May.
Campcrafter Counselor
Adventure counselors will be responsible for the safety and welfare of six to eight children ages thirteen to sixteen in a camp setting and/or on trips. This includes leading daily activities and residing with them in cabins. The adventure counselor will go through our week long Staff Training followed by eight weeks of summer camp. Adventure counselors must be twenty years old and/or have some college experience, have had experience working with children, knowledge of the outdoors/adventure sports and lifeguard certification is preferable offered free by camp in May.
Equestrian Counselor
Equestrian Counselors will be responsible for the safety and welfare of up to eight children, ages nine to sixteen, in a camp setting and at the equestrian facility. Counselor responsibilities include leading daily activities, teaching horseback riding lessons, and residing with campers in cabins. Equestrian Counselors are required to participate in the Horsemanship Safety Association certification process offered by camp in May. Lifeguard certification is recommended and will also be offered, free of charge. Following all required training, counselors will work eight weeks of summer camp. Equestrian Counselors must be seventeen years old for staff aide positions, eighteen years old for junior positions, and nineteen years old for senior positions. Camp currently has seven equestrian positions available.
Summer Camp Assistant Equestrian Director
The Summer Camp Assistant Equestrian Director is a seasonal position responsible for helping to maintain the summer equestrian program. The Summer Camp Assistant Equestrian Director will oversee the activities of the equestrian program and its counselors in the units and at the barn. He/she will assist in the development and maintenance of the daily schedule, manage riding lessons, lead group activities, supervise counselors, and may be required to carry out other counselor roles. We will need one staff for this position.
BUNK1 Director
The bunk1 director will be responsible for taking digital photographs of our campers and posting them daily on our website, as well as the delivery of camper mail and emails on a daily basis. At the end of each week, the bunk1 director will be responsible for compiling camper and staff pictures to create a slide show. The bunk1 director must be twenty-one years old and have experience and training with digital photography. The bunk1 director will go through our week long Staff Training followed by eight weeks of summer camp. We will need one staff for this position.
