Scout Riding Program

Scout Troops interested in working one-on-one with horses down at the barn are invited to Camp Piomingo for a fun day of riding!

Taught by certified instructors, there are three riding programs offered to cover topics such as horse safety, handling, equipment care, and riding basics.  Each Scout is assigned a horse and will learn proper position and basic control at the walk and over obstacles.  Our focus is to offer a positive opportunity to learn about oneself, gain independence, and build confidence with horses in a safe, friendly environment.

Beginner Rider    $28
As a Beginner Rider, Scouts will arrive at the barn for a one hour riding lesson in the arena after a short safety orientation.  No barn work or ground lesson included.

Horse Lover    $35
The Horse Lover program is a half-day opportunity (3-4hrs) for Scouts to learn a bit about safety, handling, and horse care.  They will learn about grooming tools, tack, and how to prepare their horses for a ride.  Each child is assigned a horse and will learn proper position and basic control at the walk. If deemed ready by the instructors, the Scouts may end their day with a short trail ride.

The Badge Program    $40
The Badge Program is geared towards those Scouts that may be interested in working towards a given badge requirement.  Typically offered from 10am-3:30pm, lessons are offered to cover topics such as horse safety, handling, equipment care, horse colors, parts and breeds, as well as tacking and riding basics.  This program is available for groups such as Venture Crew, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc. Curriculum can be altered to accommodate specific requirements if necessary.
